Police seize 35 kg of high-quality heroin worth BGN 5 mln

35 kg of high-quality heroin worth BGN 5 million has been seized, the press center of the Ministry of Interior announced.
A special operation was conducted on Thursday on the territory of several district police directorates to bust a drug trafficking group on the so-called Balkan heroin route.
The operation started with the seizure of a car with a Bulgarian license plate at Kapitan Adreevo checkpoint on the border with Turkey. The customs officials raided the vehicle and found more than 35 kg of high-quality heroin stashed in the car's threshold.
Under the guidance of District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo crime-busters with the district police directorates in the municipalities of Haskovo and Plovdiv and police officers with the Drugs unit in the Directorate for Fights against General and Serious Crime in Chief Directorate Criminal Police started keeping the drug trafficking organizers under surveillance. As a result, two 40-year-old Bulgarian citizens were detained on Thursday at around 11:00 p.m. on Trakia highway. The seized amount of heroin is estimated to some BGN 5 million. The drug should have crossed Bulgaria and was not earmarked for the country's market.
The case is under investigation.
