Reforms at Bulgarian customs administration continue

In reference to the structural reform at the Bulgarian Customs Agency, under Council of Ministers Decree Number 261, dated November 5, 2009, the total number of Customs Agency staff has been cut by some 104 people.
The job slashes come as a result to the thorough analysis on the activity of the customs units in the frames of the EU membership, which envisages administrative structures with restricted number of activities and adequate correlation between the used resources and achievement of results.
The staff at the following customs - Sofia, Sofia Airport and Svilengrad, has been optimized, as some of the people dismissed are officers who are popular in the public area.
Under the short-term economic measures for overcoming the effect of the economic crisis and recovery of the Bulgarian economy, passed by the Bulgarian government, there will be further dismissals of officers and the optimization will top 15%.
In reference to publicity and transparency of the actions of the customs administration, the official website of the Customs Agency ( provides detailed information about the staff dismissal procedure which is underway at the agency.
