54kg of heroin, worth BGN 6.5 mln, seized at Svilengrad railway station


Some 54 kilos of heroin has been seized at the railway station in the town of Svilengrad in the frames of a check-up executed by inspectors with Customs - Svilengrad and Chief Border Police Directorate - Svilengrad.
The drug haul was found at around 4.30 a.m. on Wednesday morning during a check on one of the carriages of an international train travelling from Istanbul and Bucharest.
Authorities found 13 packages weighting between 500 gm to 8 kilos, containing beige powder substance. The drug test done on the field reacted on heroin.
The total weight of the drug runs to 53.564 kilos and its worth around BGN 6.5 million.
Only one Polish national was travelling in the same compartment. The man is 54 years old. The Polish national and train's chief are put under arrest.
The polish man was drawn a statement over customs violation. Pre-court proceeding has been initiated on the case.
