2010-02-01

On Wednesday, January 27, 2010, two months after the last drugs destruction, the incinerator at the Enterprise for management of environmental protection activities with the Ministry of Environment and Water destroyed more than 960 kilos of drug substances - 455 kilos of heroin, 267 kilos of marihuana and 138 kilos of amphetamines, under 349 criminal proceedings.
The total value of the destroyed drugs, estimated at a ‘black market' price, runs to around EUR 144 million.
Only drugs on which there are already finalized lawsuits are liable to destruction at a decree of the Prosecutor's Office.
The drugs have been seized by the law-enforcement authorities - the Customs Agency and the Interior Ministry.
Over the last 9 years, the Customs Agency has organized and realized 27 procedures on destruction of drugs, at the total amount of 23.5 tons.
