Counternarcotics union prevented importation of five kilograms of opium from Turkey

Counternarcotics unions carried out a special joint operation of employees of General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC), Second Regional Department of Sofia Directorate of Interior and customs officers of Svilengrad Customs Office, press centre of the Ministry of Interior announced. The counternarcotics unit have found five kilograms of opium and detained two people involved in the trafficking of the narcotic substance from Turkey to Bulgaria during the special operation.
A Sofia-Istanbul bus with Turkish license plate was stopped at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint in entering Bulgaria at 22.45. A detailed check of the bus has been carried out. The bus was driven by 50-year A.V. Turkish citizen who is also the owner of the bus. During the check of the sleeping compartment of the bus was found a plastic bag with four packages, wrapped tightly with tape. The initial review of their contents - 5 kg dry, resinous, dark brown substance, showed the nature of the drug - opium. The task of the driver was only to transport the opium to Sofia and give it to a recipient in the capital.
The recipient of the five-kg shipment was established. He is a Bulgarian citizen of Iranian origin. Today he was detained by GDCOC officers in the moment of receipt of the package.
