Customs officers seize BGN 200,000 whisky

A mobile customs group seized 11,900 bottles of Passport whisky near the Oryahovo border checkpoint.
The high-spirit Scottish alcohol was being transported from a Bulgarian tax warehouse to another tax warehouse in West Europe and thus the bottles did not have an excise label.
Close to the Oryahovo border checkpoint, the officers of the mobile customs group stopped a freight vehicle with Bulgarian registration for a check-up.
While examining the documents in the database through the Mobile Excise system, customs officers detected that the administrative documents are not properly filled in and the shipment is being transported in violation to the excise legislation.
Authorities drew a statement over violation under the Excise Duty and Tax Warehouse Act.
The value of the seized alcohol is estimated at more than BGN 200,000.
