Officers with Customs Sofia seized illegal cigarettes, alcohol and tobacco at a private home - at the basement of a residential building in one of the big quarters in the capital city Sofia.
After an investigation and surveillance on a commercial outlet in the same region, which lasted for a couple of days, customs officers detected that the storage of illegal excise goods is done in another premise - a basement of one of the nearby panel block of flats.
In the frames of the check, customs officers found 2,800 boxes of cigarettes, some without excise label, others with Ukrainian or with ‘duty free' sign. The cigarettes were of the brands Viceroy, Marlboro, EVE, Rothmans, Muratti, Parliament, Davidoff and MJ.
In the improvised warehouse, authorities also found 162 packages of tobacco without excise label, each weighting 50 grams. The total amount of the loose smoking tobacco runs to 8,000 grams.
There were also 324 liters of high-spirit liquor, stored in 18 boxes each containing 12 bottles of 1.5 liters. The bottles were plastic, without label and signs. There were also some 40 bottles of alcohol with expired excise label.
Work on the case continues.
