2010-03-26

Customs inspectors in Lesovo seized 3,219 smuggled perfumes of 13 different popular brands, Customs Burgas reports. The smuggled shipment was detected in the frames of a thorough customs check-up on a heavy-freight TIR truck with Romanian registration entering the territory of Bulgaria from Turkey.
The perfumes were hidden in a classic smuggling method called "cork".
According to the documents presented before the customs inspectors, the truck should have been loaded with welding wire and welding electrodes, transported from Turkey to Romania.
During the check-up, customs officers ascertained that the content of only 18 of all the boxes loaded in the truck correspond to the goods stated in the documents.
The rest of the 48 boxes were full of undeclared perfumes of 75ml, 90ml and 100ml with market price of more than BGN 500,000.
The perfumes are of the brands Nina Ricci, Lacoste, Lancome, Giorgio Armani, Paco Rabanne, Christian Dior, Chanel, Givenchy, Bulgary, Davidoff, and others.
The driver of the truck, a 32-year-old Romanian national with initials S.E., has been drawn a statement for violation under the Customs Act. The case has been referred to the authorities in charge.
Customs Burgas will alarm the holders of the rights of the abovementioned brands in line with EU Regulation 1383/2003 and the Marks and Geographical Indications Act.
This is the third case of smuggled perfumes detected by customs inspectors in Lesovo.
Over the last months, customs authorities in Lesovo have confiscated a total of 78,866 smuggled perfumes, worth more than BGN 7 million, in three analogical cases over the last months.
