Illegal transportation of metal and plastic wastes was averted by customs officials from Svilengrad Customs Office.
In the region of Kapitan Petko Voyvoda border checkpoint customs officers stopped three trucks in three separate checks - two with a Greek registration and one with Bulgarian. In all three cases the recipient of the goods are Bulgarian companies in the region of Svilengrad, Plovdiv and Stara Zagora. In two of the cases were not introduced international transport documents, and the three drivers have not provided for the compulsory notification of shipment of waste.
Customs officers found the illegal shipment of 6,190 kg of metal waste, 1,900 kilograms of copper waste, 960 kg aluminum waste and 16,080 kg of plastic packaging.
Waste is not a product that can move freely within the EU. There is prohibition for the importation of waste and for wastes destined for reclaiming in our country, it is mandatory to have authorization of the Ministry of Environment and Water, experts remind.
