Customs officers seized 22 tons of waste in the region of Kapitan Petko Voyvoda border checkpoint on suspicion of smuggling.
Customs officials stopped a truck with Bulgarian registration in the sidelines of the implemented excise control. According to the presented documents the truck should be loaded with plastic bottles. However, the load apparently differed from those described in the documents. The truck was loaded with more than 22 cubic meters (22 tons) of waste in the form of "garbage" and shaped in unpackaged bales. The route that was marked in the documents was Promachonas - Kultata. Because of the discrepancy in the documents the customs officers seized the truck and immediately notified Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Haskovo.
