Customs officers in Ruse seize six tons of smoking tobacco, unpaid excise duty is BGN 580 700

A joint team of officials of Customs mobile groups and Customs Intelligence and Investigation of Ruse Customs Office have found a large shipment of tobacco at Danube Bridge checkpoint. A truck with Bulgarian license plate, leaving the country was selected by the "risk analysis" method for customs inspection. According to the presented documents the truck was loaded with paper and paperboard for a company in Romania. Tobacco was hidden behind packing cartons, folded and pressed in bundles. The driver who was a Bulgarian citizen had no documents for it. He said his truck was loaded with paper from another truck in a parking lot in Plovdiv.
The customs officers have found total of 60 boxes of 5807 kg. aromatic cut tobacco, probably intended for an illegal cigarette factory abroad. The unpaid excise duty of the chargeable goods runs to BGN 580 700. Verification in trade records showed that the company - consignor and seller of paper products do not exist.
