Customs officers at Kalotina hampered cigarettes smuggling attempt, the National Customs Agency informs.
The smuggled cigarettes were found during a joint check-up of customs and border police officers on the Serbia-Bulgaria international train. Some 2,141 boxes of cigarettes were found in hollow compartments in train's walls and ceiling. Most of the cigarettes have a Serbian excise stamp and are of the following brands - Victory, Viceroy, Monus, Eva Slims (without excise stamp), Marilyn Slims (with duty free sign) and others.
The compartment where the cigarettes were found was empty and thus authorities drew a statement against an unknown perpetrator.
Cases of cigarette smuggling in the Serbia-Bulgaria train are not rare. It is hard to ascertain the person responsible for the crime though, which makes this smuggling scheme very popular, experts comment.
