Customs inspectors at the Lesovo customs checkpoint seized 4,000 pieces of cigarettes without excise stamps and 446 smuggled suits of brand-name clothes while foiling two smuggling attempts from Turkey.
The cigarettes were found hidden in secret compartments made in the doors and ceiling of a Ford Focus car with Bulgarian registration. Authorities found and confiscated 200 boxes of Karelia OME cigarettes, which were with a ‘duty free' sign.
The 22-year-old driver of the car was drawn a statement of violation under the Customs Act.
The smuggled brand-name clothes were found in another car - Audi 3, with Slovakian registration. The vehicle was travelling from Turkey to Slovakia, passing transit through Bulgaria.
Customs and border police officers selected the vehicle for thorough check-up, during which authorities found 446 undeclared textile items - sweat suits, jackets, trousers, hats, belts and shoes and others, all of popular brands, such as Prada, D&G, Cavalli, Armani, Gucci, Diesel, Nike, Hugo Boss, Versace and etc.
A 27-year-old Slovakian national was drawn a statement over customs violation. The case will be referred to the right-holders of the brands in question.
