Customs officers at Kalotina customs checkpoint hampered an attempt of smuggling some 2,690 boxes of cigarettes.
The illegal tobacco products were found in the freight section of a truck with Serbian registration, transporting soft drinks for a Sofia-based company. The cigarettes are of the brands Eva and Trokadero, all without the required excise stamp.
Authorities are investigating whether the cigarettes have been hidden before the truck was sealed or have been put under the canvas later on.
Few hours earlier customs officers at Kalotina seized small amount of cocaine. The drug was put in a plastic bag, weighting 7 grams. It was sewed into a women's cardigan. The piece of clothing was put in a package as an unaccompanied luggage, transported in a bus travelling on a regular run from Bulgaria to Austria.
