Smuggled cigarettes worth BGN 5.5mln seized at Kapitan Petko Voyvoda border checkpoint

Customs officers with the Customs Svilengrad have seized smuggled cigarettes worth BGN 5,557,125.
The illegal tobacco products have been declared as painting machines. The operation was carried out in cooperation with the unit for fight against organised crime with the District Interior Ministry Directorate - Haskovo.
On Wednesday, a freight truck has been selected for a check at the Kapitan Petko Voyvoda border checkpoint. The vehicle, which has Bulgarian registration, arrived at around 8:30 p.m. It was travelling from Turkey to Hungary.
The truck was driven by a 60-year-old Bulgarian national from the Bulgarian town of Haskovo. According to the documents the driver presented, the shipment consisted of 28 pallets of cloth painting machines.
The vehicle has been directed to the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint for a thorough check, where authorities found 1,480 master-cases or 14,819,000 pieces of cigarettes, estimated at BGN 5,557,125.
The cigarettes are of the brands City, Regena, Vertus, Ray, Viva Slims, Kareena Slims Oris, Point, Tabacco Slims.
