Customs officers at Kulata checkpoint disclose new smuggling scheme

Customs officers at the Kulata border checkpoint disclosed a new smuggling scheme. Customs officers with the Customs Southwest carried out a waste operation against cigarette smuggling on July 13, 2011. The operation is realised after a thorough analysis on collected information.
Since the early morning until noon on Wednesday the customs officers have carried out thorough checks on tens of vehicles. In 8 of the vehicles authorities seized 20,265 boxes or 405,300 pieces of cigarettes without excise stamps, hidden the cars.
Cigarettes of the brands Marble and Raquel were found in the tanks, doors and roofs of the vehicles.
Authorities think that other vehicles were supposed the cross the Kulata checkpoint, too, but did not after the smugglers have learned about the operation.
