11 cigarette smuggling attempts foiled at Lesovo checkpoint

11 cigarette smuggling attempts from Turkey have been foiled by customs officers at the Lesovo customs checkpoint during the weekend.
Over the last two days, on Saturday and Sunday, authorities have seized 11,740 pieces (597 boxes) of cigarettes without excise stamp and 2 kilos of hand-rolling tobacco during checks on vehicles and passengers.
Authorities have drawn 11 statements of violation under the Customs Act. 10 of the violators are Bulgarian nationals and one is Romanian.
Other 3,000 pieces (150 boxes) of cigarettes without excise stamp have been detained at the Malko Tarnovo customs checkpoint. The cigarettes were found in a black plastic bag in a Romanian tourist bus entering from Turkey.
