Around 5kg of gold found under car battery seized at Malko Tarnovo customs checkpoint


Malko Tarnovo. Customs inspectors at the Malko Tarnovo customs checkpoint seized six packages of smuggled gold ingots and items, at the total weight of 4.732 kilos, hidden in a secret compartment in a Mercedes car with Bulgarian registrations during a joint operation carried out with border police officers, the press office of the National Customs Agency (NCA) announced.
The car arrived at the customs checkpoint at 4:20 a.m. Thursday, travelling from Bulgaria to Turkey, driven by a 37-year-old Bulgarian from the city of Burgas. The driver had letter of authorisation from the owner of the car to use the vehicle.
During a thorough check, customs inspectors found the smuggled gold hidden under car's battery.
