Religious symbols smuggling foiled at Kaptan Andreevo customs checkpoint

On August 23, after 3 a.m. in the morning, customs officers at the Kalotina customs checkpoint stopped a passenger's bus with Bulgarian registration for a check. The bus was travelling to Turkey.
During the check authorities found 40 paintings with religious motives of the traditional religions in the luggage of a Bulgarian national (woman) from the city of Plovdiv.
Some 1,050 boxes of cigarettes without excise stamp were hidden in the frames of the paintings. The cigarettes were of the brands Ashima and Victory Exclusive. In the other bag of the woman, customs officers found 10 kilos of loose tobacco.
The woman told the customs that she got the luggage from a person from Plovdiv. She was given BGN 80 to transport it to Istanbul.
