A new cigarette smuggling channel from Kosovo has been busted by customs officers at the Kalotina customs checkpoint, the press office of the National Customs Agency announced.
An Opel car, travelling from Serbia to Bulgaria, arrived Thursday at the customs checkpoint. The driver said he had nothing to declare before the customs. The customs officers, however, decided to carry out a check and found 195 boxes of cigarettes after dismantling the glove compartment. Other 71 boxes of cigarettes were found in the air-conditioning system and 6 six other boxes in car's radio.
All the 272 boxes of cigarettes were of one and the same brand and had Kosovar excise stamp.
Customs officers commented that already established drug trafficking channels in Kosovo are being tested by trying to smuggle cigarettes.
