Last night in a joint operation the customs officers with the Customs Investigation and Intelligence Department with the Customs Ruse and officers with the territorial unit of the General Directorate for Fight against Organised Crime foiled the latest attempt of gold jewellery at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint.
In the frames of a check on a Turkish passenger's bus, travelling from Bucharest to Istanbul, authorities found 6 packages wrapped in scotch tape in the pockets of one of the passengers - a Turkish national. The packages were full of golden pieces of jewellery, weighting a total of 1.185 kilos.
A pre-court proceeding has been initiated on the case.
Since the turn of the year the customs officers at Danube Bridge have seized more than 10 kilos of smuggled golden items.
