Customs officers at Kulata checkpoint seize almost million pieces of cigarettes

Officers with Customs - Southwest in the region of the Kulata border checkpoint seized almost 1 million pieces of smuggled cigarettes overnight from a truck, entering the territory of Bulgaria from Greece. The 6-ton Mercedes vehicle was registered in the Bulgarian town of Petrich and was driven by a Bulgarian national from the same town.
The truck was declared as empty but the check revealed discrepancy in the parameters of the freight cabin. Authorities found a secret compartment, in which they found 33,900 boxes of Gold Classic cigarettes and 13,390 boxes of Raquel Slims cigarettes, all without excise stamps.
