Customs officers at Danube Bridge crossing seize 3.5 tons of firecrackers

Ruse. A Romanian citizen attempted to transport illegally across the border around 3,5 tons of pyrotechnics, but was detained by customs officers of Ruse Customs Office at Danube Bridge border checkpoint last night, the press center of the National Customs Agency announced. 48-year-old citizen from Giurgiu concealed 270 boxes of firecrackers in Fiat Ducato van and covered them with sacks of potatoes. Upon opening the back door of the cargo compartment, the first thing seen were the bags of potatoes, but the trained eye of a customs officer identified a crate behind the food. Upon opening the side door of the cargo compartment customs officers encountered a huge amount of illegally transported boxes with explosive contents.
