Driver of a heavy-freight TIR truck with Romanian registration, transporting lumber for Greece, tried to escape the customs check and the sanction for surplus load at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint. When the customs officers managing the weighing machine told him his load is too heavy and has to pay a fine, the driver took away the documents from officer's hands and ran away with the truck.
A mobile customs team, however, followed and detained the vehicle. The pursuit and the arrest were done in cooperation with the police. The driver was imposed a BGN 1,000 fine, which he had to pay on the spot in order to proceed along his route.
