High price of cigarettes in Great Britain is latest explanation to yesterday’s seizure at Plovdiv Airport

The late hour of the flight to London, the "sly" coverage and other possible reasons, made a Bulgarian national - university student in London, to hope she would manage to trick the authorities at the Plovdiv Airport and successfully smuggle cigarettes.
In the end, however, this turned to be the latest smuggling attempt foiled by the customs officers at the Plovdiv Airport.
At around 10 p.m. last night authorities found some 3,600 pieces of cigarettes without excise stamps in the checked luggage of the abovementioned passenger. The cigarettes were of the brands Karelia and Victory. They were wrapped in folio and put among clothes in a suitcase.
The modern x-ray at the airport detected the illegal tobacco products and the cigarettes were seized.
With the latest case the total amount of tobacco products seized by officers with Customs Plovdiv in 2012 amounts to 2,360,260 pieces of cigarettes and 16,236 kilos of tobacco.
