Customs officers at Lesovo checkpoint seized a large quantity of cigarettes, hidden in the truck



Customs officers at Lesovo checkpoint seized 57 400 pieces /2870 boxes/ of undeclared cigarettes without excise stamps from a TIR truck with Romanian registration. The cigarettes were found during a customs inspection of the truck with a mobile X-ray machine. The customs officers detected objects with density which was different from the density of the declared goods. During the precise detailed inspection the officers seized 57 400 pieces of undeclared cigarettes of four different brands without excise stamps which were found in the trailer of the truck and in secret compartments in the truck cockpit. A statement for violation of the Law on Customs was issued against the driver of the truck - a Romanian citizen with initials G.G. 

Two other attempts for cigarettes smuggling were prevented by customs officers at Lesovo in recent days. 28 580 pieces /1429 boxes/ of cigarettes without excise stamps were seized from two cars with Bulgarian registration, entering the country from Turkey. In both cases the cigarettes have been hidden in recesses of the cockpit accommodated as secret compartments. The offenders are two Bulgarian citizens against whom the officers issued statements for violation of the Law on Customs.
