2014-04-07

The customs officers at Lessovo Customs border point seized a great amount of counterfeit branded clothing, found in secret compartments in a car with Romanian registration. 635 pieces of clothing, including blouses, trousers, T-shirts and sports sets with the logo of 17 world known brands were seized. The brands included "Adidas", "Nike", "Hugo Boss", "Calvin Clein", "Giorgio Armani", "Puma"' and others. Great part of the branded woman's and man's summer clothing were hidden in recesses in the cockpit and the trunk of the vehicle, as well as in the hand-carried luggage.

Usually, such secret compartments accommodated in recesses of vehicles are used for smuggling of cigarettes or drug substances, which makes this case exceptional.

The car entered the country from Turkey during night and was traveling to Romania through Bulgaria. It was selected for a detailed customs inspection after a signal made by the Border's Police officers. A statement for violation of the Law on Customs was issued against the driver of the car - a Romanian citizen with initials I.V. and address registration - the city of Bucharest.

In compliance with EU Regulation No 608/2013 and the Law on Brands and the Geographic Indications the case will be assigned to right owners of the relevant trademarks.

In the last week this is the fifth case of smuggling of summer clothing collections from Turkey prevented by the officers at Lessovo and Malko Tarnovo. A total of 1 252 woman's, man's and children's undeclared summer sports pieces of clothing were seized during detailed customs inspections of three automobiles, a micro bus and a tourist bus with passengers entering the country from Turkey. The offenders are three Bulgarian and two foreign citizens, who were sanctioned according to the Law on Customs.
