The customs officials at Danube Bridge ІІ Vidin-Kalafat BCP discovered a huge quantity of smuggled cigarettes, concealed behind rolls of toilet paper

A huge quantity of smuggled cigarettes, concealed behind rolls of toilet paper, was discovered and seized by the customs officials at Danube Bridge ІІ Vidin-Kalafat BCP.

The illegal good was found in a truck with Bulgarian License Plates, which was travelling from Bulgaria to Romania and was driven by a Bulgarian citizen. The vehicle was loaded with sanitary paper (toilet paper and paper towels). During the initiated by the customs officials customs X-ray inspection, it was ascertained that there was a specially built secret place in the cargo area of the truck, filled with smuggled cigarettes. The customs officials discovered exactly 1, 12 million pieces of cigarettes inside the vehicle, all of the „Ashima" brand and all with a „Duty Free" sign on it.

It is assumed that the illegal cigarettes were meant for the Romanian market.

As per court valuation rates, the seized quantity of cigarettes is estimated at BGN 420 000.

A Pre-trial procedure was initiated.
