Customs officers at Sofia Airport Customs House wrecked International channel for drug trafficking

Customs officers from the Drug Enforcement Department at Sofia Airport Customs House, under the direction of the Sofia Prosecutor's Office, smashed an international channel of drug trafficking. Customs officers discovered and seized shipments of 28 kilograms "Khat" in an attempt to smuggling narcotic substances from Ethiopia.  Bulgarian citizen was detained upon receiving of the consignment. The arrest of the man is the result of special operation on the territory of Plovdiv in coordinated actions of customs officers and police in Sofia and Plovdiv. Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted in the inventory of Sofia Airport Customs.

The value of the detained Khat is 912 000 BGN. Khat is a plant grown in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Yemen, which gives stimulating effect,  similar to amphetamines.
