Customs officers and Border Police officers at Lesovo border checkpoint found 3 350 boxes of contraband cigarettes in a secret compartment of a car with a Turkish registration. The car has left the border checkpoint without permission with purpose to escape a customs check.

The car with brand "Mercedes" arrived at Lesovo on Saturday evening on June 3, around 23.30 hours from Turkey to Bulgaria. The driver of the car and one traveler, Turkish citizens, have not declared any goods or currency. Customs officers select the vehicle for a thorough customs check, but the car leaves the customs office without permission and enters in Bulgaria. The car was detained on the road near the town of Topolovgrad by officers from the Ministry of the Interior. The car was returned with a police escort for customs check. During the inspection together with the Border Police officers, Customs officers found a secret compartment in the car with 67 000 pieces / 3 350 boxes / of cigarettes branded "MM Slims" without excise labels. Against the driver - a Turkish citizen with initials M. A. and address registration in the city of Edirne were drafted three acts under the Law on Customs for the violations he has committed. Work on the case continues.
